Unconscious returns to X-IMG with 8 tracks of carefully crafted dark electronics operating on the fringes of body techno, acid, wave and italo. This release also Includes 2 remixes by SARIN. The album is available digitally and in 50 Limited Edition hand numbered cassettes with a total run time of: C-60.

Milan based Andrea Riberti has been active in various scenes since the late 90’s from his days as a graffiti artist to his ﬁrst Akai 950 and Atari ST-1040 machines for production. He currently operates under the “Unconscious” moniker as a live artist and producer with his roots cemented in early rave culture, drawing from the wake of Post Punk, Industrial and Body Music. As a project, Unconscious surfaced in 2013 to further experimentation within electronic music, acting as an outlet to communicate raw, post-industrial sounds and emotions.

Earlier works under the alias were focused on a purist techno sound with traces of EBM influences emerging thru releases such as 2016’s “Codex Gigas” EP on Berlin-based Advanced, and 2017’s sophomore album “Chaos Theory” on Moscow based NEN Records. Proceeding releases on SARIN’s X-IMG, Marc Ash’s Blacksilk, Berlin-based Instruments of Discipline and AREA Z, began to deﬁne an evolving sound and movement towards new interpretations of EBM, Italo and acid that combined raw and nostalgic sounds with a sharp modernity. Unconscious’ live and hybrid performances are aimed at the fully body, moving dance ﬂoors with a charged and sonorous strain of Industrial-EBM and Techno.

X-IMG is an electronic music and audio/video platform started by SARIN in 2015. Also a mail order for all SARIN releases & related projects.

Genesis P-Orridge

Last month, industrial performance artist and provocateur Genesis P-Orridge performed her final concert at London venue Heaven. It wasn’t just a farewell to her audience, but also a means for Genesis P-Orridge to bid farewell to herself. Recently she told the New York Times that the course of her chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia meant that she had “less optimistically, a year, maybe six months. And then I’m on the downward slope to death”. As with the Fall’s Mark E Smith in January this year, it’s difficult to imagine the UK music underground without this constant fixture. FM Synthesis

FM synthesis is short for frequency modulation synthesis . Simply put, FM synthesis uses one signal called, the “modulator” to modulate the pitch of another signal, the “carrier”, that’s in the same or a similar audio range. This creates brand new frequency information in the resulting sound, changing the timbre without the use of filters. FM synthesis can create both harmonic and inharmonic sounds. To synthesize harmonic sounds, the modulating signal must have a harmonic relationship to the original carrier signal. As the amount of frequency modulation increases, the sound grows progressively complex. It was discovered in the 1967 experiments of John Chowning at Stanford University. At first, Chowning was using complex waveforms to modulate the pitch of simple sine waves. This resulted in supersonic signals at frequencies over a million Hertz.
